Fire

In 1728 there was a fire in Copenhagen which lasted for 3 days and destroyed 47% of the medieval part of the city.

In 1795, there was yet another fire which burned for 2 days, destroying 909 houses and damaging another 74.

After the second fire, it was decided that newly built houses in Copenhagen would be made of masonry and no longer have timber frames.
